the jambot the sabernetics of software organizations

I'm Jamil Jadallah. I've been in technology since 2004, when I had to figure out how to run a batch job using JCL with nothing but a political science degree and a desire not to get fired. Since then, I've spent my career applying a liberal arts lens to technology problems. I enjoy it almost every day.

I liked this work enough that a friend and I applied for and received US Patent 12,106,240 B2 for Linguistic Debt: a method for detecting when the language an organization uses to describe its work has drifted from the reality of that work. If you work in software, you've seen it. "Done" means three different things to three different teams, and nobody notices until the release breaks. You can learn more at beyondthealignment.com.

I created thejambot to track what I keep observing. Software swings between high peaks and deep lows, and I believe that the winning formulas are already sitting in data we collect but rarely read: the artifact trail of issues, PRs, and contributor patterns. This site tests whether a Moneyball-style read of the trail can surface what the scoreboard misses. Whatever "winning" means to you.

The intellectual platform. Essays, interactive instruments, museum exhibits, and field notes on how software organizations actually work, organized by six structural patterns.

The diagnostic platform. Reads the artifact trail (no surveys, no interviews, no source code access) to surface coordination failures 6 to 18 months before they hit your metrics.

Operating assumptions

01 Shared language is infrastructure, and it is the only infrastructure with no maintenance function. Everything else in your stack has an owner and a review cadence. Vocabulary does not.
02 Your dashboard is accurate and insufficient. Delivery metrics report a lagging surface. The diagnosis was written earlier, in metadata you already retain and do not read.
03 The person holding the organization together is invisible to the system measuring them. Translation work produces no artifact and therefore no credit.
04 Silence is not health. The quietest domain is often the least understood. Volume-based prioritization systematically misses it.
05 AI does not repair incoherence; it industrializes it. Agents fail by finishing: confident, well-formatted, and wrong in a way that requires domain expertise to catch.
06 Intervene structurally and narrowly. One boundary, one ceremony, one measured result. Programmes of this kind fail by scope.
